BIOGRAPHY
ö-Sel Nyima was born in England, but spent a childhood living in Australia
and Taiwan. Upon returning to England she studied Chinese and enjoyed
a career working for the Taiwanese government, followed by a brief spell
in advertising.
A severe road accident allowed her to retire to the English countryside
and learn various bodywork and healing therapies in order to aid her own
recovery. The best recovery was having two sons, Will and Michael, many
dogs and horses as well as a lovely garden.
As a child ö-Sel encountered Buddhism while traveling in Asia. After studying
with various Buddhist Lamas, she completed the full Ngondro (Foundation
Practices) in England under the guidance of Ato Rinpoche, a married Nyingma-Kagyud
Lama. After fulfilling her commitments with Ato Rinpoche, she began attending
teachings and empowerments from the Nyingma Lamas Ngak’chang Rinpoche
and Khandro Déchen. She eventually became their student. In 1997 she took
ordination in the gö-kar-chang-lo’i-dé as a Naljorma (vow holding yogini)
in The Ngak’phang Tradition of the Nyingma School of Tibetan Buddhism.
ö-Sel has undertaken pilgrimages and completed several extensive solitary
retreats in India, Nepal and Sikkim where she has also visited many of
the sacred meditation caves of Padmasambhava and Yeshé Tsogyel. She has
received many cycles of teachings and transmission from Ngak’chang Rinpoche
and Khandro Déchen in Britain and other countries.
Prior to settling in America in the year 2000, she taught horse riding
to disabled children in Dorset and meditation to prisoners in a sex offenders
prison in Wales under the Buddhist Prison chaplaincy organization.
ö-Sel is now living in Brooklyn New York with Rang-rig Dorjé aka Richard
Simon, another disciple of Ngak’chang Rinpoche and Khandro Déchen. She
makes a living teaching both Pilates and the Feldenkrais Method®
of Somatic Education. She has two longhaired Dachshunds named Wayne
and Herbie, two longhaired Maine Coon cats, Tigger and Cassie.
MY VIEW
All Teachers bring their own history to their teaching. Mine is made up
of a lifetime of swimming, tennis, scuba diving, horse riding, dancing,
fencing, ice-skating; recovery from a severe road accident, child bearing,
worldwide travel and a long spiritual journey of meditative practices
– and a strong belief in the power of compassion, enthusiasm, humor and
magic and miracles.
I am lucky to practice and teach three distinct movement disciplines,
all three having their own valuable benefits. I like to provide a client
with the complete package of well being, whatever it is they need at any
given time. Sometimes it is rehabilitation from injury and trauma, sensory
exploration, letting go of the thought stories, motivation, encouragement,
relearning, rediscovery, vigor, strength and the space to dream, imagine
and succeed in their goals. I am constantly motivated and excited by my
exceptional clients with their inspiring goals that they will achieve
or have achieved through their devotion to the challenges of learning
to Move and learning to Change.
May all beings be happy,
ö-Sel Nyima
