sKu-mNyé
Primal Energy Exercises of Tibetan Dzogchen “The subtle meteorology of being is in itself the most profound method of practice. The ‘weather conditions’ within the energetic atmosphere of the body are the movements of the great white vulture, gliding effortlessly above the reach and range of concept. Through these movements Mind finds itself in its own free space. The vulture has no fear of terrible heights, because the sky is her natural home.” “sKu-mNyé (koo-mnay) is a system of physical movements which give rise to profound sensations of intimacy with the elements. The exercises link the elements with five associated animals: lion – earth, vulture – water, tiger – fire, eagle (khalding or prana eagle) – air, garuda (khyung or promordial eagle) – space. Although there are various types of Tibetan physical exercises that are taught in the West, these exercises bear no relation to them. The sKu-mNyé of the Aro gTér is derived from Dzogchen Long-dé – the series of vast expanse teachings. It is possible that those who are prepared to experience themselves and their world in a different way may learn that there is a very real and accessible interaction between the inner and outer elements. Once the gentle thunder of this connection has been experienced, it is no longer possible to be dominated by boredom, fear, neurotic obsession, paranoia or depression.” ...Ngak’chang Rinpoche and Khandro Déchen, married Lamas and Lineage Holders of the Aro gTér... sKu-mNyé is a unique exercise system. It is aerobic and uses strength, flexibility, stamina and an assortment of techniques that are designed to bypass the functioning of the conceptual mind. These techniques include disorientating physical postures (e.g. standing on all fours, rotating the pelvis clockwise and the nose counterclockwise, so the whole body moves in a languid figure of eight); it uses sound, and requires the eyes to focus in space throughout the duration of the exercise. In between a set of exercises, the practitioner rests in a meditation posture. v The benefits are obvious; one can practice meditation while exercising, the exercises can make a person very fit and as the disorientating postures massage the inner body, all the senses increase and become more pronounced. A very obvious development is an increase in sexual sensation.
